‘Sacred Embrace’ was inspired from a friend creating a deck of cards for healing the Divine Feminine. She asked for an image of a man & woman facing each other, and ‘Sacred Embrace’ was one image that emerged.
The posture the couple are in, called Yab-Yum, is a common symbol in the art of India, Bhutan, Nepal & Tibet. It represents the primordial union of wisdom & compassion, depicted as a male deity in union with his female consort. The male figure represents compassion, while the female partner represents insight.
For me this painting embodies the sense of being known intimately, in love, in a deeply spiritual dimension of connection.
I also like using colour to represent energy.
